Julia has 25 years’ of headship experience, successfully leading three primary schools and as an interim and consultant headteacher. She develops leadership at all levels using coaching and/or mentoring, looking for strengths and skills and giving people real responsibility and accountability, broadly based on a solution-focussed approach. Julia, EMCC accredited as a senior practitioner, believes that the way to develop educational professionals is to help them identify their challenges and find solutions and pathways for themselves. She works with governors, aspiring leaders, newly appointed and more experienced headteachers, supporting them to identify steps to improvement. Facilitating workshops and training with participants on the NPQML, NPQSL and NPQH programmes, she is fully aware of the need for sustainable development in systems and procedures, and aims to secure long-term improvement by acknowledging that it needs to be approached systematically and within a realistic timeframe. 'The two interim headteachers have accurately identified urgent improvement priorities ... their actions have started to improve pupils’ achievement' (Ofsted Jan 2015). Julia sees the quality of teaching and learning and maximising pupil progress as the most significant priorities, alongside establishing effective leadership and good relationships with pupils, staff, parents, governors and the local community. Her work in international schools, demanding flexibility and diplomacy, has given her wide experience of different cultures and systems.
